London, Milan and Paris; A Recap

I haven’t kept up with the London, Milan and Paris shows as much as I did last year, but I couldn’t resist doing a quick look-through of the shows and the collections. I loved a lot of the collections though some seemed to be a little over the top. Isabel Marants’ was the most runway to street wearable but Valentino and Chanel, who traditionally aren’t my favorite, really took the cake this year. Their looks were true to their house DNA and actually quite beautiful.

Check out some of my favorites down below!

So You Wanna Be A Hot Mama

Whenever I see a pregnant mama or a maternity section at the store I feel inspired to write a style article. I’ve never been pregnant but this is my assumption of what I’d like to wear, and hopefully it reflects the actual pregnancy. I’ve heard the stories of always being hot, hungry, uncomfortable and tired, and the ideal being that you’re the opposite of all those things. You don’t want to be frumpy and you do want to be sexy. Blake Lively is my go to modern mama style inspiration and one day when it’s my turn I will hopefully follow in her footsteps. In the meantime, here are my style outfit ideas and inspirations.

A pair of flats, cute jeans and a comfy zip up sweater is always a go to look. Instead of throwing on a hoodie and leggings, opt for this instead! Since a maternity outfit might not be very splashy, jazz it up with fun accessories like these stacked bangles and feathery earrings.

This is one of my favorite looks because I love pencil skirts. *I think that when you can’t find something cute in the maternity section, that it’d work to grab a cotton stretchy pencil skirt from the ladies side, and pair it with a longer sweater like this one. Since it’s a spring sweater it’ll be nice and cool. Throw some slip-on flats and simple accessories and your look is a winner.

When all else fails, wear black and accessorize like crazy. This necklace is definitely a great statement piece. Pair shorts with a sleevless flowy top like this silk one for a hot summer day and throw some low wedges on to dress it up a bit. So fun!

Last but not least, it’s Date Night! If you’re married and pregnant then date night is still a big deal, and you know that having that LBD is as well. Every women, whether pregnant or not, should own at least one black midi body-con dress. It’s a great way to throw something easy on, accessorize and make it look amazing. I’ve paired this one with strappy kitten heels, as you want to stay away from the high ones, and this cozy cape to drape around your shoulders if it’s a chilly night. Add a red lip for a little splash of color.

Inuit Tribes and Tattooed Ladies: Dsquared2’s Breathtaking Collection

I’ve been harping on and on about texture, color, style, layering, etc. and happened upon Dsquared2s’ collection for fall/winter 2015. Needles to say I was drooling. Their collection is absolutely amazing, and not just one or two looks either. Every article of clothing is unique and perfect.

From first glance it seemed that they drew their inspiration everywhere from native american culture to matadors to inked ladies from the 1800’s. When I finally read where they had in fact drew their inspiration from, I wasn’t surprised. I had hit the nail on the head. They designed their collection around their Canadian roots, and imagined something like a plane that fell from the sky with suitcases with clothes from old Europe, and imagined an Inuit tribe incorporating what they found into their own dress-ware.

I’m completely obsessed. They utilized layering in a major way, using different textures and styles to compliment each other and created this visually stimulating collection that takes your breath away. You can easily incorporate a piece, or several pieces into your day to day wardrobe with some fun styling, to make a look thats fun and appropriate for todays street style.

Spring/Summer Trend: Overalls

Such a fun look! There are a lot of overalls or dungarees out there so be sure you try on a bunch till you find one that works for you. I love this high-wasited one, specifically because I have long legs and because I can get away with crop tops. A low-waisted dungaree that sits very loose can soon make you look like a farm kid (no disrespect, I used to be one) instead of a mature adult. Same goes for the shorts version. Unless of course you’ve styled it and you look adorable.

With these, I added that textured blouse, which immediately matures it. A tee-shirt is great if you’re just relaxing and a flannel, gingham or really any kind of checkered shirt is a big no-go unless you’re headed to your local hoedown. Pairing it with a blouse gives it an adult, but playful look. It says, “I’m willing to have fun, but not at the expense of my dignity”. I love the wedges because all together, they add to this vintage 70’s vibe that I’m loving. It’s perfect for spring and summer, it’s relaxed and playful, not to mention that wedges will make your legs look great!

Spring/Summer Trend: The Playsuit

Playsuit, romper, jumpsuit; whatever it’s called, it’s adorable. I love a fun, bright romper because it’s so easy to wear and looks amazing on anyone. You can have a dressy romper or a playful one, and I’d consider this towards the playful, fun day-date weekend look. The reason I chose it for my Spring/Summer Trend collection is because of the material. The bright color, silky material and the pattern feel like a 1950’s vintage beach girl, which I love. Any romper that has a burst of color, pattern or texture will be trending this season.

I added a trench coat because it tones down the busy-ness of the romper and gives it a more mature approach. The clutch compliments the material on the pattern and the sandals are those wardrobe staple leather sandals that every girl should own. Perfect for a balmy spring day! The earrings add to that boho vibe and with hair worn loose and wavy, will complete the look entirely.

Spring/Summer Trend: Red

If you read the last article, (or watched any of the fashion weeks and street styles) you’d know that a major player in the events was the color red. Whether dark burgundy hues or bright red, it certainly propped up enough for people to notice. Not only that, but I think that since last year was so monochromatic, we’ve been looking for something to break us out of our bubble.

The reason for red? It’s bright, happy, playful, sensual, and more. A pop of red is a great way to spice up a look because it’s such a daring color. You’ll see someone wearing red as often as you’ll see a red car on the road. Not often. This is way it’s a fan favorite. Check out the look below to see how to wear red in a totally rad (that was weird..) way.

You’ll see I’ve incorporated all the major trends into this one look. The mules, the textured top, the feathery earrings and even a good solid bucket bag. The bucket bag will never go out of style because it’s been a wardrobe staple since carrying a handbag even became a thing. Invest a good black (or tan) one, they go with just about any outfit.

Thigh High Boots; the Do’s and Dont’s

When the word “thigh high boots” comes to mind, I think of leathery shiny boots from the 80’s that models addicted to crack, wore. And also strippers. The thigh high boot has made it’s comeback, and so far it’s been pretty great. I was nervous at first to admit

that I actually kind of love them because associating myself with anything extremely scandalous is something I’m trying to avoid. I have however, found a way to wear them while staying classy and yet totally edgy. Imagine my ecstasy.

First, lets talk style of boot. I love suede because its subtle and soft, a different color like grey still looks amazing with any outfit. I love the idea of wearing thigh highs with jeans or leggings. Miranda Kerr pulled this look of while still  looking chic and put together. Emmanuelle Alt wore hers with black tights, black loose fitting shorts, a leather blazer and a tucked in t-shirt. This look is relaxed but edgy. The t-shirt tones down the look and the shorts add that element of fun and something different.

I’m a little against wearing thigh highs with very short dresses or shorts and having inches of skin showing. Theres something about it that reminds me of all the afore mentioned people, (strippers and cracked out models. If you’re one of these people email me and lets chat). If you’re not wearing jeans, tights or leggings, opt for a dress or shorts that are longer and maybe just shows a sliver of skin. This look is demure and doesn’t smack the admirer in the face with shock and discomfort. If you’ll be wearing leggings, make sure that your top or jacket covers your booty, else it’s a bit much.

Check out these thigh-high looks and get yours before the weather turns warm! Find some here at Nordstroms!

You’ll notice that these looks are all basically the same idea, but it’s what you wear on top that counts. A blouse verses a t-shirt, a coat versus a leather jacket. Play around and see if you can come up with any cute looks!

Look of the Day!

This look of the day comprises of a cozy oversized sweater with this chic Balmain skirt.
The sandals make it a relaxed, but glam look. I felt like looking nice today,
(after being on the road for the whole day yesterday) and this was the perfect outfit.
Super cozy, super cute, and even my hubby raised a flirty eyebrow.
Enjoy!
