In this day and age, where every checked bag is charged and a girl can’t get a decent glass of champagne on a plane without having to break out the credit card, we must learn to live simply and to thrive in our minimalism. Your answer is in your tote and your carry-on. This is where you pack all your things. Forget the checked bag, ain’t nobody got time for that.
Packing for a 5 day vacation, for some, might include packing a large bag of everything you own, or for others it’s grabbing those key pieces and creating lots of different outfits from them. This is how to be that latter girl.
Here’s 5 day looks and 5 evening looks from clothing that can all fit in a carry on (and perhaps your tote..)
Traveling any number of distances can be exhausting and can create creaky backs and cranky dispostions from long hours of sitting. The upside to traveling is that you’re actually going somewhere, and in the journey, you can look fabulous. Nothing says “well seasoned traveler” more than a woman that looks put together when she steps off the train, plane or automobile.
The first lesson in travel style or obtaining a chic look, is to have luggage that matches. When everything “goes together” it creates a great sense of cohesiveness, which in turn speaks to your timeless style. You don’t have to spend a fortune on name brand stuff, so the key to getting that timeless look is by having bags that go together.
The second lesson is that you want to travel in clothing that won’t be fiercely wrinkled by the time you get to the other side. Nothing screams “disheveled” more than clothing that’s wrinkled beyond the recognition of it’s shape. It goes without saying that wearing pajamas to the airport is no bueno. You are an adult woman who has grabbed life by the horns! Look and be prepared for anything.
Right before the end of the trip I always sneak into the restroom to freshen up, smooth the tousled hair and fix any makeup that got lost on the pillow. There’s usually also restrooms between where you got off and the meeting point.
Below are two great outfits for the traveling woman. Both are laid back with elements of done-up-ness, and the suede luggage is the perfect accessory. A large tote bag can carry your smaller shoulder bag as well as a book, magazine, cell phone charger, makeup bag, snacks while the larger carry one bag will house some extra clothing things including toiletries. (Assuming you’ve checked a bag).
There’s no denying that denim jackets will, in some form or other, always be in style. It’s an absolute must-have if you’re trying to organize your closet.
I’m loving this little guy, mostly because it has pockets! Make sure that a jacket you purchase has absolutely everything you want when it comes to details.
I might play around later with some bleach to give it a washed out or subtle acid wash look. We’ll see. I have no fear when it comes to customizing clothing I pick up at thrift stores. Make it your own!
I put this look together for running errands one day. It was the kind of day that you want throw something on and not think about it. I’m loving soft linen tops that feel aged and worn in. Like they’ve lived a whole life and each little tear has its own story to tell. It feels unique in that way.
It’s the top you paint in, plant things in, go camping in, whatever your thing is, and it’s the top that helps make memories.
This top has been with me through the highs and lows and remains faithful, so always invest in linen! It’s one of those timeless fabrics, perfect for a balmy summer day with a salty breeze.
I’m not personally super fond of wearing patterns and wild things on my clothing, but in a attempt to be more outside of the box, I purchased this very vague geometric pencil skirt in an attempt to overcome my fear. Some of you more daring people might giggle at my rather tame contribution, but a contribution it is nonetheless.
I decided to ease into this look by simply wearing it with a black oversized summer tank that I knotted in the front.
This look is a great simple way to feel like you’re making a statement without actually making a statement.
A-Line skirts can make you feel like you fell backwards into the 90’s again, but ’tis not so! Check out this adorable look that incorporates a white denim skirt with gladiator lace up sandals, a simple heather tank and accessories. I especially love the little Vivienne Westwood bag. It adds a touch of class to an otherwise beach chic look. The sporty sunnies also add a modern, fun vibe.
Let me know what you think!

There isn’t really the most absolute best skirt to have, they’re all wonderful in their own way and each can be styled to perfection. Nothing is un-stylable. Most anything can be made to wear in a fashion forward way with the right accessories and state of mind.
There is, however, the super chic cute outfit that’s almost the perfect wrap skirt look to have, and it incorporates all the amazing trends we’ve seen this season. Embroidery, suede, tassel, loose jackets and trendy sneakers. It’s a fun look, more playful and exciting and great for errands or a relaxed weekend look.
A loose flowy blazer is great for chilly mornings and evenings, push the sleeves up for style detail and interest. I would also switch it out with a bomber jacket, it would be a great alternative. The suede skirt is a great staple to have and could be dressed either up or down depending on your mood or the occasion. It creates a nice balance when you pair the soft lines of the top with the more industrial feel of the skirt. Finally those earrings add a nice touch while the shoes keep your look down to earth and convenient. The Chloe bag seals the deal and you have yourself a great look!
Lace up gladiator sandals are the best thing to happen to summer since, well, summer. This gorgeous shoe is the perfect accessory to any look and since you can lace it either high or low (up around the calf or around the ankle) they’re the perfect alternative to your usual summer sandal due to their versatility.
It’s important to read here that the type of lace up sandal isn’t the zipper going half way up your leg kind. (Although those can be great for some looks..) They can get bulky, sit loosely and make you hot real quick. Rather, simplicity and being delicate is key. Ssticking to leather laces or ropes will keep you cool and give you an on trend look and you’ll be able to wear them through many summer seasons.
